When you worked in a corporate office job, it was pretty easy to figure out where health and fitness fit into your schedule. You could get up early before work or hit the gym after work, and while you might not have always felt like you had time, you at least had a set structure that you could plan your workout and diet routines around. As you work to start a real estate business from home, though, all that structure goes out the window, and it can be really easy to live a less-than-healthy lifestyle while pursuing financial success in real estate investing.
Fortunately, though, it’s pretty easy to improve your lifestyle and your health when you have the freedom that comes with being a full-time real estate investor. Basically, you just have to do a little bit of prioritizing and scheduling, and you’ll be amazed at how much healthier and fitter you can be.
Prioritize Your Health
First of all, when you start a real estate business from home, you suddenly have a whole new set of challenges. You get to be your own boss, but that means you have to set your schedule and stick to it, too. I usually see people do one of two things (and sometimes a little of both). They’ll either work all the time with no concept of when to clock out for the day, or they’ll put off working at all until they absolutely have to get something done. Then they’ll find themselves working late into the night to meet their deadlines.
Fortunately, a lot of the tasks you have to accomplish to be a successful house flipper have to happen during business hours. Those tasks will help guide your schedule to more normal hours, and it won’t be hard to pull the rest of your work into line, either.
As you set up your schedule, don’t forget to make your fitness and health a priority. Instead of saying, “I’ll go to the gym if I get my marketing materials written in time,” say, “I’ll go to the gym at 4:00, and I’ll finish writing my marketing materials when I get home if I’m not done yet.” That’ll motivate you to work efficiently so you won’t have to do more when you get home, and it’ll take away your excuse for not going to the gym.
Meal Prep Is a Lifesaver
Of course, working out isn’t the only aspect of a healthy lifestyle. Your diet is just as important to your health as any exercise program. But taking the time to make healthy meals throughout the week can seem impossible. That’s why I recommend taking a couple of hours on Sunday and preparing all of the basics for your meals for the week. Then it’s just a matter of reheating healthy meals whenever you need them.
Keep Healthy Snacks On Hand
Finally, when you’re running from one job site to another or across town to check out a new potential flip property, you’re not always going to have time to stop for lunch. Instead of stopping at the gas station or a fast food spot, bring along fresh fruits, veggies, whole-wheat crackers, and other healthy snacks. They’ll keep you feeling full and energized without a bunch of empty calories.
A healthy lifestyle will help you out immensely as you start a real estate business from home. If you keep these three tips in mind, you’ll enjoy both financial success and the health and fitness you’ve always wanted.
