Getting started in the house flipping business and beginning your journey to financial freedom can be more than a little bit intimidating. Then, when you get over that intimidation enough to take the plunge, you suddenly find yourself in the middle of a huge project with what seems like a million things to do, and it feels like you have to do them all right now!
Stop right there, take a deep breath, and let it out. I know exactly what you’re feeling because I’ve been there. When you’re juggling everything you need to do to find leads, make deals, complete rehabs, and sell your flip houses, it can feel like you’re drowning in responsibilities. Fortunately, I’ve developed a few coping mechanisms that can bring your heart rate down and help you stay on track with your business.
Make Sleep a Priority
I know what you’re thinking. “Sleep? I have so much to do, and she’s talking about sleep?!” Yes, actually, and it’s not as crazy as you think. If you aren’t getting enough sleep, you’re not going to be thinking clearly, and you’re going to feel more stressed and more overwhelmed, even as you check things off of your to-do list.
So, instead of working late at night when you can’t even call your contractors, your realtor, or motivated sellers, shut your laptop and go to bed. Then, set your alarm a little bit early to take advantage of more of the day. Before you know it, you’ll be on a good sleep schedule, and you’ll start each day feeling rested so you can be as productive as possible.
Don’t Forget About Nutrition and Exercise
Now you’re probably thinking, “Okay, I get the sleep thing, but exercise and nutrition? How is that going to help me get more done?” A lot of the time, when I start to feel really overwhelmed and I’m having trouble finishing a task, I’ll stop myself and think about the last time I ate. Usually this happens when I worked through lunch and didn’t take the time to refuel my body and brain.
Studies have shown that people who pay attention to their nutrition and exercise regimens have an easier time staying focused and productive throughout the day. They also have an easier time dealing with stress, and they don’t get overwhelmed as easily. See why diet and exercise are important to your real estate investing business?
Make a To-Do List
I like to create a concrete schedule for our flips and for the things that I need to accomplish for them. Then I break those responsibilities down into smaller tasks for each week and each day. That makes it easy to create daily to-do lists, which keep me focused and on task. Plus, it always feels good to cross things off of my to-do list.
These aren’t complicated or difficult steps, but they’re all important and effective for being productive and staying motivated to follow your dreams of financial freedom. The more you focus on these things, the less overwhelmed you’ll feel, and the more productive you’ll be. Before you know it, your business will be in great shape, and you’ll be flipping more houses than you ever thought possible. You’ll grow your house flipping business, and you’ll do it while living a healthy lifestyle, too.
