Being an entrepreneur means really getting to live the dream. You are your own boss. You set your work schedule. You own your success, and you leverage your own time instead of letting someone else leverage it for their own profit. Making the move to real estate investing and house flipping back in 2008 was the best business decision that my wife Christina and I ever made.
That said, there have definitely been some challenges along the way, most of which had to do with organization, scheduling, time management, and other issues with running our day-to-day tasks. Over the past few years, we’ve found more and more help through some surprisingly useful mobile apps. By using these, we’ve been able to build a business, star in a successful show about house flipping (Flip or Flop on HGTV), and grow our family – all without losing our minds! If you’re a new entrepreneur, you really need to download these apps right now.
Adobe eSign Manager DC
Have you ever had to pass on a deal because you couldn’t get across town fast enough to sign the necessary documents? Have you ever run all over the place trying to get, copy, fax, scan, and/or email signed docs for your business? With Adobe eSign Manager DC, you can securely sign and send documents from your phone or tablet.
FedEx Office
Of course, you can’t send all of your documents electronically. Some of them have to be printed. With the FedEx Office app, you can send your files for signed documents, presentations, posters, etc. to the FedEx store of your choosing to be picked up when you need them.
Cozy.co
While it’s not an app, Cozy.co is an online property management software with a great mobile web browser. With Cozy, landlords and property managers can collect rent online, and screen tenants with online applications, credit reports and background checks. Best of all, it’s completely free. It’s accessible via a laptop, tablet or any mobile device so it’s great for managing your investments on the go.
Mint
As a husband-wife team, Christina and I have to do a lot of coordinating, and we have to keep an eye on our personal and business cash flow on a regular basis. We split up the tasks for our business to cover more ground and get more done just about every day. If we didn’t have a solid handle on our budget, we could get in real trouble almost any day of the week. Mint is a really cool app that lets you input your expenses, create budgets, and manage your finances from your phone, tablet, or computer.
Basecamp
When you have a lot of different projects with different deadlines happening at the same time, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and lose track of who’s done what. Basecamp gives you and your team a great way to keep everyone updated and on the same page.
Power 20
Now, this one might have you thinking, “One of these things is not like the others,” but I definitely recommend downloading Power 20. This fitness app has a ton of 20-minute workouts that you can use whenever you have a few minutes to spare for your health.
Why is a fitness app important for a new entrepreneur? Getting your business off the ground can really take over your life, but maintaining a healthy work-life balance will keep you focused and on-point. Staying fit will keep your mind sharp, and this app can help you squeeze in a workout, even when you only have a few minutes to do it.
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night with an amazing idea…and then in the morning you’ve completely forgotten what it was or how to execute it? Entrepreneurs have great ideas for their businesses at the worst times. You’ll have your breakthrough in the middle of spin class at the gym, at 3:00 AM when you should be asleep, or while you’re out shopping with your family. With Pocket, you can bookmark sites, make notes of ideas, and save all of the content you want to read later.
These are some of my favorite apps, but more are being developed all the time. Keep your eye out for more clever ways that mobile tech can help you run your business and your life more smoothly.
