As you probably already know, the real estate business is all about reputation and relationships. As you’ve started to grow your real estate investing business, you’ve created and built relationships with real estate agents, contractors, wholesalers, and others in the real estate investing industry. With each new person you meet, you get access to even more people in the business, and you gain more opportunities to grow.
For a lot of real estate investors just starting out—and some who’ve been at it for a while—finding and connecting with these people can be difficult. That’s why one of the best things you can do to kick-start your house flipping career is to attend a few real estate networking events each year.
If you’re not convinced yet that you can benefit from these events, here are a few reasons that I encourage all real estate investors to do a little bit of industry-specific networking every year.
Learn the Tricks of the Trade
A lot of real estate networking events feature a keynote speaker, and some have several panels to choose from. These are all given by veterans of the real estate industry, and you can learn a thing or two from any of them. Yes, some of them will be there to sell books, but you don’t have to buy anything to listen to some inspirational advice about breaking into the real estate investing world or some surprising tips about selling houses in a down market.
Build Your Real Estate Team
How many great real estate agents or brokers do you know? If you’re like most people, you probably don’t know a lot of people in the real estate business. Fortunately, real estate networking events are attended by agents, brokers, investors, contractors, accountants, real estate attorneys, and other people in the industry. If you’re looking for a good way to meet the right people and start building your real estate team for your investing business, this is a great way to begin.
Get Inspired to Grow Your Real Estate Investing Business
One of the reasons I’ve always loved going to these events is that I always meet investors who have really impressive fix-and-flip portfolios. When I talk with them, I learn about how their strategies are similar to and different from mine, and I get inspired to take some of their advice on my own house flips. If you’re feeling like you have a long way to go to be a successful house flipper and to achieve financial freedom, you might just need to go meet some people who’ve made their dreams come true with this business. I always come back from a real estate networking event feeling recharged and ready to try out the best new strategies out there.
Find a Real Estate Investing Mentor
Whether you’re brand new to investing or you’ve been doing it for years, finding a mentor is incredibly invaluable. I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned from real estate mentors over the years and how much I enjoy passing the torch to new investors. And what better place to find an amazing mentor than an event specifically designed to help real estate pros connect?
So what do you think? Are you ready to sign up for your first (or next) real estate networking event? Tarek and I plan a few of these every year, and we always gain something really great from them. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see you at the next event we attend!
