Flipping houses is a really interesting business, and Tarek and I have had a lot of fun and learned a lot along the way. I never thought I’d see my husband laying sod or helping to pull down an old trellis, but he’s really done it all with our rehabs. As you can see when you watch our show, we’ve really come a long way in learning how to find the best deals, picking out deal breakers, and budgeting our rehabs. And we’ve also had a lot of crazy challenges along the way in our real estate investing business, too.
From having our car stolen in front of a flip house in the middle of the day to learning just how much value more open space and a kitchen garden can add to a house, we’ve gained so much knowledge and experience in this business, but one of the things that helped us get ahead when we first started was our experience as realtors.
As agents with experience buying and selling houses for years before the crash in 2008, Tarek and I both already knew our real estate “style”. Knowing how we work best to sell houses has helped us brand and market our business as we’ve gotten into flipping houses and built our real estate investing business. So, how can you find out what your style is?
Using Your Personality Type to Build Your House Flipping Business
As you read about flipping houses and how to get started in this business, you’re going to find a lot of people telling you that there’s only one right way to do things. Honestly, if that were true, there would be one single rulebook for our business, and you’d never need any other advice or help. Everyone is different, and if you try to go against your personality type or style to find leads and sell houses, then you’re going to be pretty miserable. And your business is going to suffer, too.
For example, if you’re not a naturally aggressive person, the idea of running out and hunting down new leads and sales like there’s no tomorrow probably sounds pretty terrible. In fact, you’re probably wondering how you’re going to build your business if you don’t learn to be more outgoing and in-your-face. Well, there are a few different ways to find leads and make sales, and you can choose the ones that work best for you based on your personality.
If you’re not highly aggressive and outgoing, but you’re friendly, likable, and build relationships easily, you don’t have to run down leads as much. You can network with other people in the industry and fill your lead funnel more organically. This also translates really well to your real estate marketing, too, since you’ll be comfortable with reaching out to people on social media and sharing quality content with your followers that they’ll find useful and enjoyable.
Knowing Your Style Will Help You Sell Houses Faster
Some people sell their houses based on their expertise and knowledge of market values, architecture, etc. Some sell them based on the lifestyles that their buyers will have when they move in. Some get more sales by flooding their market with advertising for their business, while others do it with strategic networking.
Whether you’re a real expert on the neighborhoods where you’re flipping houses or you love showing people all of the amenities they’ll have within easy reach, the more you know yourself and get comfortable in your real estate style, the more you’ll be able to grow your real estate investing business, and the more fun you’ll have throughout the whole process.
